Situated on the top of the third peak of Purple Mountain, it was built in September 1934, which is the first institution for the research of modern astronomy in China. It has paid much attention on the popularization of sciences while doing research, and built the first historic museum of astronomy in China with self-financing. As the cradle of contemporary astronomy in our country, it has opened showrooms of ancient astronomical instruments of the Ming and Qing Dynasties with beautiful mountain scenery to visitors.
